Getting to Adelaide
International links
There are daily direct international connections through Dubai (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Singapore (Singapore), KL (Malaysia), Denpasar (Indonesia), Auckland (New Zealand).
National Connections
There are daily connections from most major Australian cities: Sydney (2 hrs), Melbourne (1.5 hrs), Brisbane (3 hrs), Perth (3 hrs), Darwin (4 hrs), Cairns (3 hrs) and Alice Springs (2 hrs). Pro tip: if you’re flying into Sydney, try and get a window seat on the left side of the plane… if you’re on the right approach to the airport and the weather is good, you get an amazing view out the window of Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera house.
Travelling from Europe
There are no direct international flights from Europe to Adelaide. There are many one-stop connections from most European cities via Dubai (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Singapore (Singapore) and KL (Malaysia). Alternatively, consider flying into Perth (from London, Paris or Rome), Cairns, Sydney or Melbourne, for a local stopover.
Travelling from North America
There are no direct international flights from North America to Adelaide. There are many airlines that fly direct to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland (NZ) from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Dallas Fort Worth. You can even fly direct to Auckland from New York City (although logistically it might be quicker to go through Dubai on the way over – fly against the spin to keep your airtime low). International stopovers include Dubai (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Singapore (Singapore), KL (Malaysia) and Denpasar (Indonesia).
Travelling from Asia
There are only a few direct flights to Adelaide from Asia (Singapore (Singapore), KL (Malaysia) and Denpasar (Indonesia)) and these will be the best international stopovers. Dubai (UAE) and Doha (Qatar) are possible, and may be longer, but might be price competitive. Most countries in Asia do have daily direct flights into Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with Perth, Cairns and Darwin accessible from some countries.
Travelling from Africa
Direct connections are limited, with direct flights from only Johannesburg (South Africa) to Perth and Sydney and Plaine Magnien (Mauritius) to Perth. The most direct alternatives are through Dubai (UAE) and Doha (Qatar) with Singapore (Singapore) and KL (Malaysia) also providing good connectivity.
Travelling from South America
The shortest route is across the pacific, with flights from Santiago (Chile) to Melbourne and Auckland (NZ) that if you’re lucky enough, might catch glimpses of Antarctica if you have a window seat on the correct side of the plane. The alternatives are to fly east through Johannesburg (South Africa), Dubai (UAE) or Doha (Qatar), or north and then west through connections in North America.
